DP Playing Fields Association
In 1979, following a public meeting, the Ditton Priors Playing Field Association was formed and registered as a charity. Their aim was to develop a recreational facility for use by the village and surrounding areas. The DPPFA then purchased the existing four acre site.
In 1980 the field was levelled, drained and seeded.
Between 1983 and 1985 the existing Pavilion was built.
In 1993 the adventure play area was built and the field marked out as a football pitch.
The capital costs of the DPPFA between 1979 and 1999 not including the maintenance and running costs was in excess of £37,000.
In 2000 the most ambitious project, the Multi Use Games Area was completed at a cost of approximately £25,000.
The DPPFA is at present in the process of refurbishing and modernising the now over 20 year old Pavilion. This involves replacing the windows and doors, fitting a complete new kitchen and bar area. Disabled access and a disabled toilet are also being incorporated. The internal layout has been changed to better suit its present usage.
The DPPFA is run by a committee of volunteers as directed by the constitution. They have run a great many fund raising events over the years. The annual Firework night, summer balls, family fun days, barbeques, promise auctions, race nights, themed evenings, and discos.
The Playing field and Pavilion have been used by many different organisations over the last 20 years including : The School, Playgroup, Mothers and Toddlers, Nursery, Junior Church, Youth club, Brown Clee Hockey, Brown Clee adult and youth football. In addition the Pavilion is available for hire for private parties or for any other society or individual.
The Field, the Play area, and the multi use game area are available for anyone to use on an informal basis.
